In accordance with the National Policy of Education (1986), Govt. of India started Jawahar Navodaya Vidyalaya (J.N.Vs). Presently the JNVs are spread in 27 states and 7 Union territories. As on date, total 551 JNVs are functioning through out the India. As per recommendation of National Policy of Education 1986 each and every district will have one institution of JNV. These are co-educational residential Schools fully financed by Govt. of India through an Autonomous organization named as NVS. While education in the school is free including boarding, lodging, uniform and textbooks etc. a nominal fee of Rs. 200/- will be collected from Class IX to XII called as Navodaya Vikash Nidhi. However, Girls, SC & ST, Boys, children belongs to the families under Below Poverty Line are exempted from the fee.
